X-PRESSWAY 97

A RAISED UNOBSTRUCTED
X-PRESSWAY  PROPOSAL

--with four lanes of free-flowing  unencumbered traffic.
This blends into the bridge which has three lanes flowing west [one continuous truck lane] and two lanes flowing east.

[The amount of lanes will be decided by engineers, based on traffic quantity studies]
A VERY EFFICIENT MEANS OF CONNECTING AN IMPORTANT NORTH/SOUTH ROADWAY,GORDON DRIVE, TO THE BENNETT BRIDGE. THE OFF AND ON RAMPS WOULD BE AT GORDON DRIVE
AND AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE W.R.BENNETT BRIDGE

HIGHWAY 97 X-PRESSWAY
As it relates to:
THE WILLIAM R. BENNETT BRIDGE
A CONCEPT FOR THE EAST APPROACH
TO PROVIDE AN EFFICIENT ELEVATED PASSAGEWAY THRU AN
IMPORTANT CONGESTED 2.2 KMS.
TO MAINTAIN THE PRESENT NETWORK OF INTERSECTIONS
FOR THE DOWNTOWN CORE OF THE CITY OF KELOWNA.
TO ALLOW WORKABLE, EASY ACCESS TO DOWNTOWN, NORTH, AND SOUTH KELOWNA.

TO PROVIDE UNOBSTRUCTED FLOW TO TRAVELERS
VIA HIGHWAY 97.
TO RETURN HARVEY AVE. TO THE CITIZENS OF KELOWNA BY REMOVING
THE PRESENT CONTROL BEING EXERTED BY VICTORIA. THAT WILL
COME BY THE SEPARATION OF HIGHWAY 97 FROM HARVEY AVE.

THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION STATES
“ TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN THE CENTRAL OKANAGAN COST TRAVELERS
$200 MILLION IN THIS PAST YEAR ....
by  2030 it is estimated to cost an extra $802 per car region wide.”

Ron Westlake, Kelowna Traffic Manager “ We’re looking for alternatives.”
VERY IMPORTANT ! >>> large commercial truck traffic tend to use the downtown streets to access the north industrial area
The X-PRESSWAY would offer an efficient link to that area via
GORDON DRIVE

  1. Why is it that some of our most influential leaders/councilors in Kelowna City Hall still are trying to delay a highly recommended solution to the traffic congestion on Harvey Avenue? My conclusion is it is because they are afraid of the success of REALEASING Harvey Avenue from Victoria control. Councilors Hodge, Rule, Hobson and Mayor Shepherd are Citizens with a vision. They want to see an immediate, reasonably priced solution to two facts:
    1. Get Victoria to release the control of Harvey Avenue so it can be efficiently developed along with the improvments to Bernard Avenue, the 4 block down town area, the development of the old School space and other very important improvements and maintenance that needs to be done in our original City Core Area
    2. Raising the Highway over Harvey will reduce exhaust gas polution, allow trucks and buses to get to their destination efficiently, and remove that unnecessary North South division in the heart of this great City.
